I would be remiss if I didn’t use these pages to point out the mini-trend of Unusual Items Attached to the Head. Where is this happening, you may ask, and by whom? Okay, I wouldn’t say that this is the most widespread phenom. You may not have even noticed it happening. Luckily, you have No Smarties to analyze these things for you! So, without further ado, allow me to present the following…

Note also the egg on the purse
Here is a look from Agatha Ruiz de la Prada’s Fall 2009 ready-to-wear show. It is a baguette hat. Now, Ms. de la Prada has done crazier stuff before. However, judging by this show in Milan, it seems she is assuming the role of an innovator in the Items Attached to Heads trend - even going so far as to attach unusual items to the heads of children!
And ol’ Agatha’s not the only fashion entity who is leading the world in this topsy-turvy new direction. Take Louis Vuitton, for example:

Above you are gandering at their $640 Extreme Babouche shoe, which they decided would be best if presented attached to the side of a boss-looking drag queen’s head. In full disclosure, I should tell you that this is my all-time favorite advertisement, which I have carried around with me since I first saw it in a Swedish magazine in 2007:
…and which will likely show up on this blog again when I get around to writing the article, “Crap I have shlepped around to 5 apartments and should throw away.”
Also, Alexander McQueen made this butterfly hat:
Which looks like an explosion of happiness. Yes!
So, you may be asking, is it just fashion designers who are attaching things to heads? Nope! How about these headphones shaped like wings:
Or this photographer who dumps things on her friends’ heads:
Or these ads for headache medicine:
Or this evidently popular website called Pants On Head?

Yep, trend. There you have it. Despite the fact that this makes you look like a crazy person, I’d suggest you keep a lookout for thing-attaching opportunities…no one likes to be left out! Seriously. If you need me, I’ll be in the bobby-pin aisle.
